For the weekend of 19th and 20th December JUDKA invited Viewpoints Rotterdam; Arjan Gebraad and Deborah Black . They both have years of experience in training Suzuki and Viewpoints. I have met them during the intensive workweek which was organised by Kinderen van de Villa . They have trained with the SITI Company and share the vision, just as JUDKA, that it enriches our artistic view if we join and train together.

The Viewpoints allows a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold theatrical work quickly. It develops flexibility, articulation, and strength in movement and makes ensemble playing really possible. (from http://www.siti.org)
Suzuki-based training Developed by internationally acclaimed director Tadashi Suzuki and the Suzuki Company of Toga, the Suzuki Method’s principal concern is with restoring the wholeness of the human body to the theatrical context and uncovering the actor’s innate expressive abilities. A rigorous physical discipline drawn from such diverse influences as ballet, traditional Japanese and Greek theater, and martial arts, the training seeks to heighten the actor’s emotional and physical power and commitment to each moment on the stage. Attention is on the lower body an a vocabulary of footwork, sharpening the actor’s breath control and concentration

*** What is for me the value of working with viewpoints ***
As a performer, you tell a story in time and space. In your presence you play the thin line between really being there and how to play your part. In order to create in space requires a strong foundation in the here and now. To come to play you must first be in the center of yourself. Only then can you open up to the others in the room and the room itself. The power that unfolds is rich for you as an actor / dancer / performer. Viewpoints describes concepts in time and space. In looking up the boundaries of time you give yourself and others the possibility to have something occur. You train, for example, the experience what slowness has to offer, or high speed. To zoom in it can teach you to look at the theatrical sense from the performer site. The physical input shows in my vision very powerful the beauty of human being. The vulnerability of your own way of moving. By accessing the technical means of concrete tasks, you discover things about yourself that you might not easily use within a work process. It makes you more awake and open to what is already present. You become more flexible in your awareness.
